Larry's passion for the human experience is at the heart of all he does.

His own life and career has been a diverse and varied adventure. He worked in the corporate world and entertainment industry before switching to the non-profit sector – as the director of an anti-bias program for public schools, an environmental educator, and a fundraiser for women and girls. He has always been an avid spiritual seeker and world traveler. His experience as an expat allows for a unique perspective for others in the same situation.

In 2003, he decided that he wanted to make a difference in a more personal way, and began his training as a therapist. As a therapist and father of two, he's committed to helping others grow and create deep meaning in their lives.

Praise

"I love Larry. He's been a fantastic force of change in my life, and a cornerstone to my success. His guidance and clarity has helped me get my own in this complicated world. I've worked with him for many years and recommend him highly."

– Sean

"I recommend Larry to all of my friends going through personal transitions, growth, and existential 'crises'… as are most people at any given time!

Larry's helps me act from a place of personal power and self-compassion. He has a special way of being kind and blunt and funny all at the same time, which helps me see the more light-hearted side of things.

I now feel more authentic, relaxed, and able to deal with feelings and situations as they arise, instead of getting so overwhelmed. I have learned many tools that I've been able to use in my life that have made me more connected to myself and those around me.

He has helped me see how important my own relationship is with myself, which has vastly improved the relationships I have with others. I have learned to be more present and in touch with right now, instead of getting lost in worry about the past and the future."

– Stephanie

"Larry Nicholas has been an amazing gift to my life. I started seeing him with my husband for couples therapy. He had an amazing ability to really hear both our voices and help 'interpret' my husband's feelings to me and my feelings to him.

He helped us save our marriage and connect on levels we've never connected before. He also helped me find my confidence, take responsibility when appropriate, and not take responsibility when issues aren't mine to deal with.

I'd recommend him to anyone who is seeking to improve their overall quality of life and gain tools for coping with what life throws at you."

– Kristine L.

"Larry quickly helped my husband and me establish a safe and trusted place for honest conversation by leading with compassion and a refreshing level of humor and down-to-earth realism.

He allowed each of us the time to reflect and process, while also challenging us to examine and make shifts in thought processes and behaviors that were working against us. Because of Larry, we were able to overhaul our communication style to be one that was much healthier and more productive.

Words can't explain how grateful I am that Larry came into my life. I have recommended him multiple times to friends looking for personal or couples therapy."

Questions and Answers

Why do people seek therapy?

People enter into therapy for various reasons. Some are searching for a response to unexpected changes in their lives, while others are seeking self-exploration and personal growth. When coping skills are overwhelmed by guilt, doubt, anxiety, or despair, therapy can help. Therapy can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping for issues such as depression, anxiety, lack of confidence, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, bereavement, spiritual conflicts, identity confusion/frustration, stress management, body image issues, and creative blocks. People seeking psychotherapy are willing to take responsibility for their actions, work towards self-change, and create greater awareness in their lives.

What if I don't know what my goals are for therapy?

If you aren't sure what your goals are for therapy, your first task is to figure that out. It may take several sessions before a direction is clarified. During the course of therapy your goals may change. However, establishing a direction for therapy will help you get the most out of the experience.

What can I expect in a therapy session?

During sessions you are expected to talk about the primary concerns and issues in your life. A session lasts 45 minutes, but some people request longer sessions. Usually weekly sessions are best. Some people who are in crisis or extreme distress need more than one session per week, at least until the crisis passes. During the time between sessions it is beneficial to think about and process what was discussed. At times, you may be asked to take certain actions outside of the therapy sessions, such as reading a relevant book or keeping records. For therapy to "work," you must be an active participant, both in and outside of the therapy sessions.

What benefits can I expect from working with a therapist?

A number of benefits are available from participating in psychotherapy. Often it is helpful just to know that someone is listening and understands. Therapy can provide a fresh perspective on a difficult problem or point you in the direction of a solution. Many people find therapy to be a tremendous asset to managing personal growth, interpersonal relationships, family concerns, and the hassles of daily life. The benefits you obtain from therapy depend on how well you use the process and put into practice what you learn. Some of the benefits available from therapy include:

Attaining a better understanding of yourself and your personal goals and values

Developing skills for improving your relationships

Create a space to safely grieve a loss of a loved one, an aspect of your life or something else which needs to be felt.

Finding resolution to the issues or concerns that led you to seek therapy

Find new ways to cope with stress and anxiety

Managing anger, depression, and other emotional pressures

Improving communications skills - learn how to listen to others, and have others listen to you

Getting "unstuck" from unhealthy patterns - breaking old behaviors and develop new ones

Discovering new ways to solve problems

Improving your self-esteem and boosting self-confidence

Do you accept insurance?

I do not.

Is therapy confidential?

In general, the law protects the confidentiality of all communications between a client and a psychotherapist. Information is not disclosed without written permission. However, there are number of exceptions to this rule. Exceptions include:

  • Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse. The therapist is required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.

  • If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person(s). The therapist must notify the police and inform the intended victim.

  • If a client intends to harm himself or herself. The therapist will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in insuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, further measures may be taken without their permission in order to ensure their safety.
